They Brought The Violence!

Violence is everywhere and none us cannot escape it. Violence can creep up on us at any time and when it does, we must face it one way or another. Survival!

After brutally beating up an innocent dude dating one of their friend’s ex-girlfriend; a group of no fucks given guys with their girlfriends alongside them head out to drink heavily at a nightclub and are later apprehended by the police for the assault from earlier on. Since these guys give no fucks clearly; they fight off the police & end up killing one of them. As they try to escape, they end up taking refuge at a home where a nun & her young niece reside in. The nun at first doesn’t hesitate to help out the young group since one of them was shot in the leg; but when they begin to act out, rape her niece & cut off their phone line; the nun becomes frightened of the violence & sin that has come into her home. Should she obey their “rules” or should she fight back violence with violence?

Ellos Trajeron La Violencia (aka "They Brought The Violence") was written by legendary filmmaker Carlos Enrique Taboada and while he’s mostly known for his horror stuff, Taboada had also written plenty of dramas & crime flicks as well. Some are good, some are just okay and some are questionable because you’re unsure if Taboada was being serious or not. In the case of Ellos Trajeron La Violencia; the movie at first plays out serious & grimy, but then the movie drifts off to scenes that are tongue in cheek & not so serious. Is this movie about violence & survival? Or is it just about a nun getting involved in some stupid, fucked up shit with some stupid ass kids?

Either way, Ellos Trajeron La Violencia doesn’t fail to entertain with the direction of Ismael Rodríguez who in the past had made some of the most famous, dramatic Mexican movies ever and later in his career focused on crime-drama flicks. His son Ismael Jr would follow in his footsteps by making plenty of crime-drama movies as well and most involving young people getting violent as fuck. This is why I assumed this was a movie directed by Ismael Jr, but legitimate records show Ismael Sr was the real director and Jr is only the producer. But of course, his influence & style is clearly there in the movie as well.

The nun in Ellos Trajeron La Violencia was played by Sasha Montenegro and as usual she does an excellent job in her role and of course bares it all to please her devoted viewers. Claudia Guzman is another wonderful actress in the movie who bares it all and also acts great. Her character is pretty wild as well and so much so that she seduces the nun’s pure-hearted niece. The no fucks given young men are played by Oscar Bonifiglio, Edgardo Gazcon (thank god he doesn’t sing in this movie!), Roberto Montiel and Ismael Rodriguez’s son Cuitlahuac Rodríguez. All 4 dudes are no strangers to the roles they play here and excel well in them.

Ellos Trajeron La Violencia does not fail to entertain and well worth a watch at night time. Yeah it's quite unusual & baffling (again, was it trying to be serious o que?), but definitely a must see anyway. I’d honestly pair it with any of Ismael Rodriguez Jr’s movies as well just to make the viewing more intriguing.
